This is a photo by Countess on Etsy. Its lovely and it reminds me of cold weather.
I'm missing etsy. I've got a JOB now and haven't made the necessary divisions in my life to include etsy. I go full force into projects (the job) and have to pull back a little to see clearly. To see how the whole of my life is carrying on.
Changing seasons will sometimes cause that change of view, the accounting of the movements in a life.
So I need to make things again and get involved with etsy again. Here is what I have planned:
Making movies. Can you sell movies on etsy? how would that work?
Making a movie for The Storque. Like a tutorial or something. Whether or not they accept my pitch, at lease I can put it on the library blog.
Embroidery. It's becoming cold, changing seasons right? That makes me want to get out the fibers and start crocheting and working with hand sewn things on the sofa.

My first interview

I'm feeling so proud for having my first interview! Chris over at goodfeets on etsy has this pretty nice daily blog where he picks five interesting things a day to talk about. Today I am interesting.

I just listed my first drawing on Etsy. Etsy is the perfect venue for selling art. Galleries, besides making me sort of nervous, take a huge commission and therefore are much more pricey. Also, Etsy is available to anyone who has access to a computer. I love that Etsy provides an extremely widespread and public arena for viewing art. I love the idea that I am personally and directly involved with the buyer. How many times have I heard my brick and mortar gallery owner misinform clients about my paintings? Is it that he tries to make them seem better than they are? Or that he just doesn't know and doesn't care to be correct? Grerr..

I hope they do well on Etsy.
I'd love to do more, and think I will today.

I just listed a page's worth of jewelry on etsy. Oh please, God, let people be enthralled and buy it all. It's just been lying around lonely in little ziplock bodybags waiting for a life. I rediscoverd all of it the other day while putting together my box for etsylabs.

My photos are a little grey. I should have used cleaner light. But I suppose it is a reflection of how I feel about selling them. And also how I feel about having them all still in my house.

I plan on listing a bunch more.
Next round the photography will be stunning.

I am so far behind on my custom orders. Tomorrow I will finish them all.

Etsy Traveling Journal Collaborative

I have just completed my part of the Etsy Traveling Journal. The flickr pages are here for the collaborative and here for me.
I am pretty happy with how it turned out.
The part that really tripped me up was the companion booklet. I tend to get really personal when I write. I suppose it is from years of journaling. I wrote all this stuff that was personal and just didn't fit with the project. So I painted it out and began again. I decided to treat the companion booklet like the picture journal. So there are painted out places and doodles.

I will pack it up and send it on its way to the next stop tomorrow.
I also plan to get the etsy labs box sent too. I finally went up in the attic and pulled down a bunch of stuff for them.

Ok. I just apologized the the next in line person through a convo about having a paint dot bleed through to her page. That was my main concern about this project. How am I gonna do this without ruining everyone else's pages.

Mind Space

The universe is keeping me from opening up a successful myspace page, and maybe it's for the best. But I am trying to get one going, so when I do, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, I am thrilled to be on Etsy. I just added the above listing. I always get requests for custom fabrics, so why not list something for it. Plus, this makes more sense from a payment standpoint.

Well, well, well

I just read the last post. and here it is several months later. I have to laugh, because I haven't made lunch tote or computer bag number one. I have come up with a couple new purse designs though. Here is one that i made for Fairy in New Orleans. Fairy is a super cute boutique on Magazine Street.Elizabeth, the proprietor, found this cute retro tattoo fabric and gave it to me to make stuff for her.
A cool thing that happened last week was Erin Haldrup coming into town for Mardi Gras. She brought a little video camera and taped a few Etsy artists showing off their wares. I met her at the home of wholespectrum and rustchic. They are Heather and Kerry, and they are incredibly friendly and sweet women. I hope Erin got good footage. I was really nervous and felt like I blabbed a bunch of nonsense and overly personal things. Oh well. Let it go into the atmosphere and let it land where it will.
